Mayor Rob Putaansuu Asks Public to Submit a Word that Celebrates Port Orchard
Port Orchard launches an Online Survey Allowing Citizens to Provide Input, on the Exterior of the Port Orchard Community Event Center
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
PORT ORCHARD, WA – March 10th, 2022 - Mayor Rob Putaansuu and the City of Port Orchard opened up an online survey that invites the public to suggest ideas for ‘one word’ that celebrates
Port Orchard. This word (or words) could be incorporated in the exterior design of the upcoming Port Orchard Community Event Center & Library facility that will occupy the current location
of Kitsap Bank on Bay Street. This public input session will be hosted online and open to anyone who would like to submit feedback until April 10th.
The latest concept designs for the Event Center created by Rice Fergus Miller Architecture depict the word ‘COMMUNITY’ in large letters on one end the building and ‘EVENT CENTER’ on
the other. However, Mayor Putaansuu sees an opportunity to engage the public on what would eventually be the new Library, public event space and cornerstone of the Port Orchard waterfront.
“I really like the way the word ‘community’ wraps around the two sides of the building in the conceptual drawings. I especially like how the word UNITY is created when you face the building
head on, and it made me think that there must be a better idea than ‘Event Center’ for the other side of the facility. This is an opportunity to make a statement about what kind of
community we are and what is so special about Port Orchard. And since this facility is intended for the benefit and enrichment of the public, I thought that asking the public to help
could be a meaningful exercise,” said Mayor Putaansuu.
The ‘One Word’ public input survey is open to all who would like to participate at https://www.imagineportorchard.com/one-word and will be open until April 10th.
