1114 - Resolution - Honoring Lt. Colonel Dexter J. KerstetterRESOLUTION NO. 1114 WHEREAS, Lt. Colonel Dexter 7. Kerstetter, retired of the Washington State National Guard, whose life has been a synonym for service and his courage in face of adversity has been a challenge, was called to rest; and WHEREAS, he, personally, was awarded the Medal of Honor for heroism on Luzon in the Philippines on 13 April 1945, and is the firtt local recipient born, reared, and lived in Washington, to pass away in the State of Washington; and, WHEREAS, Lt. Colonel Kerstetter was a holder of the Purple Heart, active in veteran organizations, and one of the main promoters of the Bremerton Titan Drum and Bugle Corp; and, WHEREAS, his sterling attributes are recorded indelibly in our hearts and few men have ever held the position of high esteem which has been his; and, WHEREAS, those who have had the honor to work with him feel a brave, noble man has left us; and, WHEREAS, on behalf of the citizens of Port Orchard through the City Council, deepest sympathy is hereby extended to members of his family; NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Port Orchard that this resolution be recorded in the records of the City of Port Orchard in honor and in memory of one of the outstanding citizens of Kitsap County with August 5, hereby proclaimed as " LT. COLONEL DEXTER J. KERSTETTER DAY" PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the City of Port Orchard, signed by the Mayor and attested by the City Clerk in authentication of such passage this 14th day of August, 1972.
