Festival of Chimes and Lights
Committee Minutes
Monday, February 27, 2023; 3:30pm
Members present via remote access: Chair Lucarelli and City staff Floyd. Guests present via remote access: Irene Beckham, Port Orchard Bay Street Association; Sandy Jennings, Soroptimist;
Sharron King, Fathoms O’ Fun Festival, Inc.; Kathleen Wilson, Port Orchard Bay Street Association and Kitsap Regional Library.
Kitsap Bank Community Connections
Staff Floyd explained that each year, the City applies for a grant from Kitsap Bank for the Festival of Chimes and Lights event. This year, the City was awarded $1,000.
QR Code
Staff Floyd said at the last meeting, someone suggested using a QR code to help spread the word about the event. The City’s IT department was asked about this and they responded it may
not be a good idea because of the sensitivity of the City’s infrastructure. Additionally, QR codes can easily be hacked.
Poll Results
The committee discussed the poll results for which country should be represented during the event as part of Christmas Around the World. The poll results show Switzerland had the most
votes.
2023 Event Discussion
The committee discussed the event which included times of street closures and working with the downtown merchants, not using the waterfront and gazebo park, limiting the event to around
city hall, downtown tree decorating contest pricing and timeframes, concerns about closed parking lots, upcoming construction that will affect the downtown area as well as the event,
special event application, pet parade, volunteers, choirs, Santa and location of photo opportunity, use of the Port of Bremerton parking lot, marching band, firetruck, coloring contest,
and Fathoms O’ Fun Royalty Court.
There being no further business, Chair Lucarelli adjourned the meeting at 4:09 p.m. Audio/Visual recording was successful.
