Overall Event or Project Detail  Project Name* Port Orchard Event funding for Cornhole and Axe Throwing tournaments Amount of funding requested* $6,000.00 Total Overall Event or Project Amount* $10,000.00 A. Describe your overall event or project.* In 2022 and 2023, we attracted hundreds of people to Port Orchard. Players came from Kirkland, Port Townsend, Olympia, Yelm, and various parts of Pierce County. Although this event will eventually become self-sufficient, we currently require assistance in promoting it beyond the local area and acquiring operational supplies. The Kitsap County Cornhole Classic continues to draw participants from across the Puget Sound Region. However, it has faced significant competition. In 2024, we plan to move the tournament to the spring season and secure an indoor venue. This will mark the beginning of the summer cornhole tournament season in Port Orchard. We are excited to introduce a new business in town that caters to a different clientele. PenAxe, which opened in July 2023, specializes in axe throwing. Axe throwing is a growing trend, and currently, there are no other tournaments of this kind offered in Washington State. To support PenAxe in promoting their event, we would appreciate marketing fund assistance. Your contribution will help us make these events successful and further enhance Port Orchard’s appeal as a vibrant destination. B. Describe how your overall event or project will provide a community economic benefit.* Both the Kitsap County Cornhole Classic and the PenAxe tournament are aimed at attracting visitors from outside the area. These events provide an opportunity for visitors to explore local shops and dine at our restaurants. As the Kitsap County Cornhole Classic continues to grow, it will attract an increasing number of attendees. The launch of the PenAxe tournament will bring in a different audience, providing our local businesses with additional customers. C. Please describe how you will measure the impact your overall event or project will have on tourism or projected increase in tourism. Please be specific and provide examples.* We have partnered with the new Kitsap Tourism Coalition to provide statistics captured from Datafy. While event registration shows where participants come from, Datafy will provide us with more detailed information. Your support will help us continue to gather valuable data and improve our services. Please upload any additional paperwork, if needed. Describe, and be specific, on what you would spend the requested lodging tax funds on.* To encourage funding, we plan to utilize the money received from LTAC to promote events around the area and support infrastructure development. While we have been successful in promoting our events locally through social media, we lack the necessary funds to expand our reach. We are actively working on building our infrastructure, including operational supplies. As the tournament grows, we anticipate the need for additional supplies and equipment to support our infrastructure. However, our ultimate goal is for the event to become self-sufficient. B. Income Other Than Lodging Tax (from sponsorships, grants, donation and admission fees) If you anticipate receiving partial funding for this activity from another source, please list the source(s) approximate amount, and status of funding. Indicate the entry or admission fee if one will be charged. If the funds are not available, it would hinder our ability to invest in marketing efforts. Consequently, the events may not be as successful as anticipated. However, it’s worth mentioning that these events will likely continue, albeit with some limitations, even without supporting funds. C. Other Financial Information Does your overall event or project have provisions (or plans) for becoming less dependent on Lodging Tax funding? (Meaning does the overall event or project have the ability to increase revenue by charging admission, increasing fees, etc.)* To encourage funding, it’s important to note that our events are becoming more independent each year. While the events are not big money makers, we use a majority of our funding for promotions. We try our best to get outside vendors to support the events, but in order for them to grow significantly, we need to offer better cash prizes. We use other funding sources to provide prizes. Our ultimate goal is for both events to be 100% self-sustaining in the next couple of years. It’s worth mentioning that cornhole and axe throwing are growing in popularity around the world. If not, what are your challenges of generating new revenues: Tourism 5. Estimated Numbers of Increased Tourism *If you received lodging tax funds last year, you must attach last year’s reporting* Applicants applying for use of LTAC funds must provide estimates of how it will result in increases in the number of people traveling for business or pleasure on a trip as required by RCW 67.28.1816 The applicant hereby certifies and confirms that it does not now nor will it during the performance of any contract resulting from this proposal unlawfully discriminate against any employee, applicant for employment, client, customer, or other person(s) by reason of race, ethnicity, color, religion, age, gender, national origin, or disability.
