POLICE INVESTIGATE SUSPICIOUS POWDER AT AUDITOR'S OFFICE
On March 19, 2024, at 1324 hrs., the Port Orchard Police Department responded to the Kitsap
County Auditor's Office for a hazardous materials incident. An employee of the office was
handling an envelope when a white powder allegedly fell out.
Auditor Paul Andrews evacuated his employees from the facility where they were examined by
medics from South Kitsap Fire & Rescue. Employees were medically cleared at the scene. The
Kitsap County Administrative Building was shortly thereafter closed to the public.
The department responded along with assistance from the Kitsap County Sheriff's Office, the
Washington State Patrol, and the United States Postal Inspection Service.
Hazardous materials investigators did not locate any harmful substances. The primary agency
responsible for the continuing investigation will be the US Postal Inspection Service.
The Kitsap County Administration Building, including the Auditor's Office, will be open and
available for business during normal business hours on March 20, 2024.
