HomeMy WebLinkAbout605 - Ordinance - Police Department prohibit parking and remove parked vehiclesORDINANCE NO.�'\ ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE POLICE DEPARTMENT TO PRO- HIBIT PARKING ON ANY OF THE STREETS IN THE TOWN OF PORT ORCHARD AND TO REMOVE PARKED VEHICLES WHEN NECESSARY fOR THE PROPER CONTROL OF TRAFFIC AND PROVIDING FOR THE DE- TERMINATION OF THE NECESSITY OF SUCH ACTION BY THE CHIEF OF POLICE: BE IT ORDAINED BY THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF PORT OR : Section 1: That when necessary for the proper control of traffic on any street OR streets in the Town of Port Orchard, the Chief of Police of the Town of Port Orchard shall direct in writing and in the manner hereinafter pro- vided that no cars shall be parked in such portion of such streets or streets as he shall deem necessary to the proper control of traffic on such street or streets. Section 2: The Chief of Police shall have the authori- ty and it shall be his duty to determine when the parking of motor vehicles interferes with proper traffic control, but In any event if the Council of the Town of Port Orchard shall direct him by resolution duly made to prohibit park- ing on any street or streets in the Town of Port Orchard, such resolution shall be binding upon him. Section 3: 'As soon as practicable after the Chief of Police shall direct in writing that parking shall be pro- hibited on any street or streets or any portion thereof, the Police Department shall notify each householder residing on the said street or streets by leaving a written notice at each house on such street or streets defining the no - parking limits and in addition shall er ct a temporary no - parking stand in number not less thgfi0h end of the no parking zone. After the delivery of said notices and the erection of such temporary no -parking stands, it shall be unlawful for any person to parka vehicle jot any nature within the no -parking limits and any vehicle so parked or left parked in such area shall be towed away by a commercial garage upon direction of the Chief of Police and at his discretion and the owner of such vehicle shall be liable for the payment of the towing and storage fees for said vehicle.
