AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF PORT ORCHARD, WASH NGTON,
TO APPROVE A REDUCTION N FTE COUNT FOR PATROT OFFICERS FROM
18.0 TO 17.0 AND AN INCREASE !N FTE COUNT FOR POt CE SERGEANTS
FROM 3.0 TO 4.0; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY AND PUBL CAT ON;
AND SETTING AN EFFECT VE DATE.
WHEREAS, the police department continues to review organizational structure, capacity
and best practices; and
WHEREAS, the Chief of Police recently determined that supervision of operations is an
area in which the City can benefit from organizational changes; and
WHEREAS, the 2OL9-2O20 adopted budget provides for 18 Patrol Officers and 3 Police
Sergeants; and
WHEREAS, the department currently has a vacancy for the position of Patrol Officer; and
WHEREAS, the City Council has determined, based on the recommendation of the Chief
of Police, that the City will benefit from changing the vacant Patrol Officer position to a Police
Sergeant position; now, therefore,
THE CITY COUNC L OF THE C TY OF PORT ORCHARD, WASH NGTON, DO ORDA N
AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. The City Council hereby authorizes a reduction in the FTE count for Patrol
Officers from 18 to 17.
SECTION 2. The City Counci! hereby authorizes an increase in FTE count for Police
Sergeant from 3 to 4.
sEcTroN 3.Severabilitv. lf any section, sentence, clause or phrase of this Ordinance
should be held to be unconstitutional or unlawful by a court of competent jurisdiction, such
invalidity or unconstitutionality shall not affect the validity or constitutionality of any other
section, sentence, clause or phrase of this Ordinance.
SECTION 4. Publication.This Ordinance shall be published by an approved summary
consisting of the title.
SECT ON 5. Effective Date. This Ordinance shall take effect and be in full force and effect
five days after publication, as provided by law.
