AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF PORT ORCHARD, WASH NGTON, TO
CONF RM THE MAYORAL APPO NTMENT OF MATTHEW BROWN AS
POt CE CH EF; PROV DING FOR SEVERAB LITY AND PUBL CATION; AND
SETT NG AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, pursuant to RCW 35A.12.O2O, appointive officers shall be those provided for
by ordinance; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to POMC 2.08.070, the police chief shall be appointed by the
Mayor and confirmed by the City Council, and shall serve at the pleasure of the Mayor; and
WHEREAS, the City hired a consultant to handle the recruitment of the police chief; and
WHEREAS, the City held interviews with the top candidates, including holding a public
greeting; and
WHEREAS, after extensive review, the Mayor appoints Matthew Brown as the City's
Police Chief; and
WHEREAS, the City Council wishes to confirm the appointment of Matthew Brown as
the City's Police Chief and to clarify the transition process; now, therefore,
THE CITY COUNC L OF THE C TY OF PORT ORCHARD, WASH NGTON, DO
ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
SECT ON 1. The City Council hereby confirms the appointment of Matthew Brown as
the City's Police Chiel effective July 8, 20t9. Matthew Brown will officially become the City's
Police Chief upon his swearing in, which is scheduled to take place on the morning of Monday,
July 8, 2OL9. At that time, the City's current Police Chief, Geoffrey Marti, will relinquish the
duties of Police Chief and will remain available for transition assistance until July 3 L,2OL8, after
which date he will be officially retired from the City of Port Orchard Police Department.

should be held to be unconstitutional or unlawfu! by a court of competent jurisdiction, such
invalidity or unconstitutionality shall not affect the validity or constitutionality of any other
section, sentence, clause or phrase of this Ordinance.
SECT ON 3. Publication.

AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF PORT ORCHARD, WASHINGTON, TO
CONFIRM THE MAYORAL APPOINTMENT OF MATTHEW BROWN AS
POLICE CHIEF; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY AND PUBLICATION; AND
SETTING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
Copies of Ordinance No. 016-19 are available for review at the office of the City Clerk of the City of Port Orchard.
Upon written request, a statement of the full text of the Ordinance will be mailed to any interested person without
charge. Thirty days after publication, copies of Ordinance No. 016-19 will be provided at a nominal charge.
