Festival of Chimes and Lights
Committee Minutes
Monday, May 21, 2018; 3:30 p.m. at City Hall
Members present: Chair Lucarelli and City staff Jenine Floyd. Guests present: Bobbie Stewart, POBSA; Sharron
King, Fathoms O’ Fun; Sheila Cline, Arthritis Foundation; and Laura, a Port Orchard citizen.
Chair Lucarelli let the committee know the garland the City purchased may not be able to be hung across Bay
Street. The committee discussed other garland hanging options.
Tree Decoration Contest
The committee discussed responsibility of anchoring and placing the trees in the planters; electricity options;
sponsorships; extra police patrols; when to put the trees up; tree donations; decorations; guidelines for tree
contest; disposal of trees; responsibility of watering the trees; and a prize for the winner of the contest.
Advertising
Chair Lucarelli would like to advertise for the tree contest after Labor Day. The application and announcement will
be posted on the City’s website.
The ad for the Festival of Chimes and Lights has been published in Discover Kitsap. No more advertising for the
event will be done until later in the year.
2018 Festival Update
The committee briefly mentioned a coloring contest, cookies, and costumes.
Movie Options
The committee is hoping the free movie can be tree related due to this year’s theme of O’ Christmas Tree.
Christmas Tree Sourcing
Chair Lucarelli will talk with Public Works about where they could find live trees for the contest.
Miscellaneous Items
Staff Floyd noted she researched tent options and asked the committee what kind of tents they are interested
in. This tent would be for the choirs, and the City does have enough in the budget.
The committee briefly discussed the different options and would like a durable, high wind capacity tent. Chair
Lucarelli would like to purchase one tent, try it out, and possibly get another.
Staff Floyd was asked to find the specifications of the 10x20, canopy gazebo party tent with mesh side walls.
There being no further business, Chair Lucarelli adjourned the meeting at 4:17 p.m. Audio-only recording was
successful.
Future Meeting:
