Tree Decoration Contest
Chair Lucarelli said 11 planters have been sponsored and we have verbal commitments for up to 15.
The brochure deadline is next Wednesday, and we will need sponsor names to put in the brochures by
then, if available.
Staff Thiele met with Alpine Farms who provided 3 choices of trees. After a brief discussion, the
committee would like to move forward with the Fraser Fir trees.
The committee continued discussion on who could sponsors planters; deadlines for receiving, planting,
and decorating trees; process of securing the trees in the planters; using LED lights for tree decoration;
use of the merchant icicle lights and meeting with the City’s electrician to discuss power options; and
the creation of a tree silhouette which indicates which organization has sponsored which planter.
Garbage and Trashcans
Staff Thiele said the City provides cans around City Hall. The City may want to contact Kitsap
Community Resources for additional help with community service.
Advertising
Chair Lucarelli provided an update of the budget and availability for advertising including in utility bills,
brochures, and different kinds of publications.
Staff Rinearson said someone with a radio station contacted the City about broadcasting the event on
the radio. After a brief discussion, the committee noted although they appreciated the information,
they would like to pass on the offer as $500 is a lot of money with no measurable results.
City Hall Tree Setup
Staff Thiele spoke to Jones Tree Farm, and the tree should cost about $200 to $250. He is working on
the details on how to get the tree to City Hall.
Clock Tower Chimes
Staff Floyd said the chimes would not be fixed this year; however, public works staff has offered to
manually work the chimes for the event.
