Festival of Chimes and Lights
Committee Minutes
Monday, November 19, 2018; 3:30 p.m. at City Hall
Members present: Chair Lucarelli and City staff Bill Thiele and Jenine Floyd. Guests present: Terry
Bontrager, Saints Car Club; Bobbie Stewart, POBSA; Trish Tierney and Clay Blackwood, Kitsap
Community Resources; Cheyanne Flerx, Woodside Animal Hospital; and Dr. Omri Bahat.
Update: Tree Decorating Contest
Chair Lucarelli thanked Staff Thiele for his work with the trees. Power has not been an issue, and we
should continue to do this contest in the future, if we can. Most of the trees have already been
decorated, and she will contact who has not decorated their tree yet to find out when they will be
completed. She also voiced her concerns with the lack of rain.
Staff Thiele said he may need more lights to decorate around City Hall as some of them have burnt out.
He will determine how much he will need and will update staff.
The committee discussed the various tree decorations and visual appeal of the lights; converting the
icicle lights into LED lights so each planter could have a lighted tree; and checking the budget to see
how much can be spend on additional lights around City Hall.
Brochure Update
In response to Staff Floyd, Chair Lucarelli said she will be taking some of the extra brochures to hand
out.
City Hall Tree
Staff Thiele said they will begin to decorate the tree on Monday.
The committee briefly discussed past year’s trees and decorations.
Finalizing 2018 Festival
Chair Lucarelli noted the schedule for the festival is similar to what has been done in the past and
briefed the committee on some of the events.
Batmobile
Dr. Omri Bahat explained they have a family foundation, non-profit, that works with kids in need. Their
goal is to help these kids and provide entertainment. They partner with other non-profits in the Seattle
area and what they do is provide Batman for entertainment. He asked if Batman could attend this
year’s festival, walk around, greet the kids, and take pictures. The Batmobile will be available next year.
There are also villain costumes if anyone would like to participate.

the event.
Miscellaneous
Staff Thiele noted Matt, with Community Service, has been a big help to him.
Ms. Tierney and Mr. Blackwood would like to finalize the plans for AmeriCorps volunteers who are also
volunteering for the Jingle Bell Run. Staff Thiele, Mr. Blackwood, and Ms. Tierney discussed what the
volunteers could help with and locations where their help is needed.
In response to Dr. Omri Bahat, Mr. Blackwood briefly explained the goal of AmeriCorps.
Chair Lucarelli mentioned the fire truck, Santa, and bands, are all good to go. She will coordinate with
Public Works to play the song from the chimes.
Staff Floyd explained Sharron King with Fathoms O’ Fun was not able to attend this meeting, and she
had questions regarding the fire pits and who is responsible for lighting them. Staff Thiele said he will
provide the lighter to Mr. Morehouse, who will light the fire pits. Chair Lucarelli mentioned we may
need to purchase new fire pits next year.
Mr. Bontrager said they came up with a way to light up Santa Claus with LED lights so he is more
visible.
