Festival of Chimes and Lights
Committee Minutes
Monday, March 18, 2019; 3:30 p.m. at City Hall
Members present: Chair Lucarelli and city staff Jenine Floyd. Guest present; Bobbie Stewart, POBSA.
Tree Decorating Contest
Chair Lucarelli said we still need a theme for the event as well as coming up with three tree judging
categories. She really likes the idea of having the theme centered around lights.
The committee and guest discussed the theme and tree judging category options. Two of the three
tree judging categories were agreed on; ‘Best Vintage Tree’ and ‘Most Creative Tree’. The committee
will continue to think about the last tree judging category and a theme for the event which involves
lights.
Staff Floyd said the resolution for accepting sponsor funds will be going before Council the end of April.
The committee also confirmed dates for the tree decorating contest as follows:
• Contest open to the public with payment accepted starting September 9th;
• Prior sponsors can submit a reservation prior to September 9th with payments accepted starting
September 9th;
• The contest will stay open until all planters have been sold/sponsored;
• The City will place trees in the planters November 4th through the 8th;
• Sponsors can begin decorating their trees starting November 11th;
• Tree judging will take place the day before Thanksgiving, November 27th;
• Winners will be announced during the December 7th Festival of Chimes and Lights event; and
• Tree decorations will need to be removed by January 10, 2020.
The committee briefly discussed advertising for the event; tree prize donations; and verifying with City
staff Thiele that he can accommodate these dates.
Porta Potty Funding
In response to Chair Lucarelli, staff Floyd said the City Clerk mentioned she is still looking into the
budget for additional porta potties. Also, we should talk with Jingle Bell Run about partnering with
them.
Miscellaneous
The committee and guest discussed what can be done to attract more people down to the location
where pictures are taken with Santa. They also talked about the Port of Bremerton decorations; the
possibility of live animals or rides; additional lights and decorations; and bagpipes.
