Festival of Chimes and Lights
Committee Minutes
Wednesday, August 26, 2020; 3:30 p.m. at City Hall
Members present via remote access: Chair Lucarelli and City staff M. Brown and Floyd. Guests present via
remote access: Sharron King, Fathoms O’ Fun; Rita, a Port Orchard citizen; and Kathy Garcia, Port of
Bremerton.
Road Closures
Chair Lucarelli noted there will be no road closures this year.
Continued: 2020 Discussion
In response to Chair Lucarelli, Police Chief Brown recommended not providing a date to the public for the
virtual tree lighting as people still might show up.
Ms. Garcia said the Port will continue to light up the waterfront, but there will be no lighted boats this year.
Chair Lucarelli mentioned we should still light everything up the day of the festival at the same time. We
will encourage drive-by participation. We may have extra funds for purchasing more lights to put around
Port Orchard. Police Chief Brown again recommended not publicly noting times or dates as we do not want
people gathering in crowds.
The committee discussed various ideas on how to get the community involved without gathering and how
to get the information out to the public. After discussions, the committee would like to move forward with
asking volunteers to paint rocks with positive, holiday art and messages and hide in public locations
throughout Port Orchard. The City would then post information and pictures to the City website.
Additionally, the committee discussed new theme ideas for this years’ festival and possibly meeting a
couple times a month until the event.
Tree Decorating Contest
Chair Lucarelli said we should really start pushing the tree contest out and get the word out there.
There being no further business, Chair Lucarelli adjourned the meeting at 4:24 p.m. Audio/Visual recording
was successful.
