HomeMy WebLinkAbout04/08/2025 - Regular - Additional Doc-Citizen Comment, BostonCity Council 3 min talk April 8 I am here to beg for permission to use my private property. Port Orchard is a quaint little fun type city on the waterfront. With goals like: 1. Nice local commercial services for our residents and 2. Many creative interesting successful small businesses But in the last few years the City has hired bureacrats focused on killing those goals. I will describe my business experience and desperately need elected City Council and Mayors help: I have owned an 85 year old building at 1460 Sedgwick for 20 years. Just across from the new Starbucks. I average 5 small business renting office and garage spaces from me. After being annexed in 2013. the nightmares began. Most recent: Last October Olympic Tree Service" moved out and in November Champion Massage" rented the office and applied for city permits. On Dec 10 as requested by him the City came to inspect. Code enforcement. Christine Civiletti. was there and made a huge stink! Why? We had replaced 6 ft high divider partitions with full height panels. Which are non load bearing, light weight room dividers costing about $400. And we put $20 drywall over an interior door that that been kicked in by burglars. Within a few days we submitted Tenant Improvement permits and drawings for it. (see photo) But your nameless faceless. building people required it be drawn by a architect. That took two months and $2000 to find one. Even with requirements met. as of today we have no occupancy permit and death threats from your bully to not go into the building. So rude behavior the cleaning lady quit not wanting to face the City persons wrath. Now this four month delay has cost me over $10,000 for what? For no reasonable reason!!! No structure. no fire or safety. nothing. We wanted to remove the panels. a two hour job. But no! We were seriously threatened to not take the panels out. We have repetitive threats of $250/day fines. On top of that a City person commands us to never use our small back office because it has stairs to it. My tenant wants to abandon Port Orchard as this ridiculous behavior has never occurred in his business in Cities of Renton and Lynwood. What is result ? One less service for citizens of Port Orchard. With no income to maintain, the building and grounds will turn into a dump filled with homeless transients. Total destruction of the Goals you Love. Council persons, Hiedi Fenton and Eric Worden, have toured the property. They'll tell you the building and grounds are nice and totally useable. Please I beg you to all come see this property and then rectify the City attitude and policies. I beg for permission to use my own property which you collect $9000 property tax.
