include, but not present: Melode Sapp (Port Orchard Chamber of Commerce); Debby Baker (Givens
Community Center); Mallory Jackson (Bay Street Custom Framing); Robert Ojima (P.O. Downtown
Assoc.); Linda Niebank (McCormick Woods Land Company); Doug Eide, Police Chief Joe Mathews and
Kristine Tompkins (City Treasurer).
Councilman Clauson opened meeting by distributing agenda and asking the members present to introduce
themselves and whom they represented, if from a group or organization.
Primary discussion for this meeting was the Brick Sales. Councilman Clauson informed the committee
that he had received information from the City of Bremerton regarding their brick sales. The Bremerton
Boardwalk brick sales were perpetuated by Puget Sound Naval Shipyard during their Centennial and are
now sold and maintained by the Bremerton Mainstreet Association. Their bricks ranged in price from
$50.00 - $60.00 and the engraving was done by Tacoma Monumental Work.
Councilman Clauson distributed information regarding the purchasing and engraving of the bricks. All
1440 bricks will be purchased through the contractor in conjunction with the change order for the
installation of the bricks. The cost for the change order including the purchasing of the bricks will be
approximately $11.00 per square foot. Once the bricks are purchased and received they will be taken to
Tacoma Monumental Work and stored until the contractor is ready for laying. There are two options to
choose from: (1) a standard brick (7 % x 3 %2 x 1 '/4) with a possible of 2 lines maximum and 18 spaces
per line; or (2) a quarry tile (6" x 6") with a possible 3 lines maximum and 15 spaces per line. The quarry
tile will be placed at the Prospect Street entrance to City Hall and the bricks will be placed at the Bay
Street Entrance. Councilman Clauson also reported the price range of the bricks from other organizations
have been from $19.95 to $125.00, with an average sale price of $50.00 to $75.00 each.
After much discussion and review of the costs and expenses involved with the production and installation
of the bricks the committee voted, by raising of hands, to establish a sale price. By majority vote the
committee decided to sell the bricks for $35.00 and the tiles for $50.00. Other discussion included
establishing a means of recognition for companies, firms or individuals who contribute donations for and
toward the Grand Opening and purchase of the fountain. Recognition was established as follows: Donors
in the $1,000 category will receive two (2) tiles and two (2) tickets to the evening gala; $500 category will
receive one (1) the and (2) tickets to the evening gala; and the $250 category will receive one (1) tile.
It is estimated that brick/tile sales may continue through the third week of March. This will allow time
for the remaining bricks to be engraved and brought to the City Hall site for the contractor to lay. Bricks
may continue to be sold, however, engraving will have to be done on site at a later date. The on site
engraving must be done during warm/dry weather and we must have a minimum order of 25 bricks/tiles.
Councilman Clauson distributed a sample order form for the bricks. Patti Garcia (for Gussie Schaeffer)
informed the committee that the Sun would take sample order form, reformat, publish and reproduce the
order forms as a contribution to the committee.

Brick/Tile sales can proceed as soon as the order forms are printed and delivered to the Chamber of
Commerce. Councilman Clauson will contact Melode Sapp from the Chamber of Commerce to discuss
their role in the sales. However, the goal will be to have the Chamber of Commerce be the point of
contact with sales generated through the Port Orchard Chamber office. Note: The committee decided a
P.O. Box would not be appropriate for the brick sales and the Chamber of Commerce would be more
convenient as a point of contact. Jill Boltz will collect the order forms from the Chamber and maintain a
listing for each sale. A "Certificate of Ownership" will then be mailed to the appropriate person.
The next meeting was scheduled for Thursday, January 21", 1999 at 5:00 p.m.
Meeting was adjourned at 6:45p.m.
