RESOLUTION NO. 057-26
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF PORT ORCHARD, WASHINGTON,
RETROACTIVELY ACCEPTING MEMORIAL BENCH DONATIONS FROM THE PORT
ORCHARD ROTARY CLUB AND AUTHORIZING THE FUTURE ACCEPTANCE OF
DONATIONS MADE THROUGH THE MEMORIAL BENCH PROGRAM.
WHEREAS, the City of Port Orchard has partnered with the Port Orchard Rotary Club to
administer the Memorial Bench Program; and
WHEREAS, through this program, the Rotary Club coordinates the purchase of
standardized memorial benches and plaques, donates them to the City, and City Public Works
installs the benches in approved public park locations consistent with City standards; and
WHEREAS, under the City's Donation Policy for Public Spaces Accessories, adopted
through Resolution No. 018-21, donations valued at over $5,000 must be formally accepted by
the City Council; and
WHEREAS, the memorial bench donations made through the Rotary Program exceed
this threshold and therefore require Council acceptance; and
WHEREAS, fourteen (14) memorial benches have previously been purchased by the
Rotary Club, donated to the City, and installed by Public Works, but were not formally accepted
by the City Council at the time of installation; and
WHEREAS, these benches meet the City's standards for compatibility, durability, and
maintenance, and staff recommends retroactive acceptance of all previously donated benches;
and
WHEREAS, staff further recommends authorizing ongoing acceptance of future
Rotary -donated memorial benches under the Memorial Bench Program, provided those
donations remain compliant with the City's Donation Policy for Public Spaces Accessories and
applicable Public Works standards; now, therefore
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT ORCHARD, WASHINGTON, HEREBY RESOLVES
AS FOLLOWS:
THAT: The City Council hereby retroactively accepts the fourteen (14) memorial benches
donated by the Port Orchard Rotary Club and installed in City parks under the Memorial
Bench Program.
THAT: The City Council hereby authorizes the continued acceptance of future memorial
bench donations made through the Port Orchard Rotary Club's Memorial Bench
Program, provided each donation complies with the City's Donation Policy for Public
Spaces Accessories and all applicable City standards.

THAT: City staff are directed to continue administering the Memorial Bench Program in
coordination with the Port Orchard Rotary Club, to facilitate compliant donations,
installations consistent with City policy.
THAT: This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon passage and signatures
hereon.
PASSED by the City Council of the City of Port Orchard and SIGNED by the Mayor and
attested by the City Clerk in authentication of such passage this 22nd day of September 2026.
