A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF PORT ORCHARD, WASHINGTON,
SUPPORTING THE WASHINGTON STATE SECRETARY OF
TRANSPORTATION'S DETERMINATION TO DECREASE THE SPEED
LIMIT ON A PORTION OF SR 166 WITHIN CITY LIMITS
WHEREAS, RCW 46.61.405 authorizes the Secretary of Transportation to
decrease the speed limit on a state highway on the basis of on an engineering and traffic
investigation; and
WHEREAS, in response to complaints from citizens and business owners that
the speed limit on SR 166/Bay Street was too high in the area of Suldan's Marina, the
Washington State Department of Transportation (DOT) conducted an engineering and traffic
investigation between MP 0.00 and MP 2.01; and
WHEREAS, based on the engineering and traffic investigation, DOT has
concluded that the speed limit between MP 0.00 and MP 2.01 should be reduced from 50 mph
to 45 mph; and
WHEREAS, RCW 46.61.405 provides that the reduced speed limit shall be
effective when appropriate signs giving notice thereof are erected; and
WHEREAS, DOT has requested that the Port Orchard City Council affirm its
support for the reduced speed limit since the relevant state highway lies within city limits; now,
therefore;
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT ORCHARD, WASHINGTON,
HEREBY RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:
THAT: On the basis of the engineering and traffic investigation
conducted by the Washington State Department of
Transportation, the Port Orchard City Council hereby affirms its
support for reducing the speed limit from 50 mph to 45 mph on
SR 166/Bay Street between MP 0.00 and MP 2.01.
PASSED by the City Council of the City of Port Orchard, SIGNED by the Mayor and
attested by the Clerk in authentication of such passage this 24th day of October 2005.
