January 18, 2021-Martin Luther King Jr. DayPROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, the City of Port Orchard joins the Ebenezer African Methodist Episcopal Church
in its 27th Annual Day of observing the life and legacy of the late Revered Dr. Martin Luther King,
Jr.; and
WHEREAS, this year is a great opportunity for us to recognize all the churches, service
clubs, non-profits, and the civic organizations that work every day to unite Port Orchard residents;
and
WHEREAS, this is a great opportunity for us to celebrate Reverend King's commitment to
humanity, community, nonviolence, justice, education and service; and
WHEREAS, Martin Luther King jr. had a dream and we should take this opportunity to
confirm that his dream has been imprinted permanently in our hearts; and
WHEREAS, we will faithfully confirm that his dream is still alive when we love and respect
one another and show that love with every selfless act we undertake as a community; and
WHEREAS, Dr. King has taught us that all the people we encounter should be treated with
faith, hope, and charity; and
WHEREAS, when Martin Luther King, Jr. asked us, "What are you doing for others?" Port
Orchard residents will have a long and impressive list of successes; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE lT RESOLVED that l, Robert Putaansuu, Mayor of the City of Port Orchard,
do hereby proclaim Monday, January t8,2O2L as:
Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Celebration
in the City of Port Orchard and urge citizens to honor the memory of Dr. King Jr. by putting
his teachings into action by finding ways to give back to the community on this day and throughout
the year
