RESOLUTION NO. 007-12
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF PORT ORCHARD,
WASHINGTON, SUPPORTING THE SOUTH KITSAP FIRE
AND RESCUE DISTRICT LEVY BALLOT MEASURE
PROPOSITION NO. 1
WHEREAS, the elected Fire Commissioners for South Kitsap Fire and
Rescue have placed a temporary property tax limit increase ballot measure on April17,
2012;and
WHEREAS, approving this measure will help the district maintain the
increased demand for service from our rapidly growing community. This measure will
maintain nine Firefighter/Emergency Medical Technicians employed. Additional
staffing is needed to maintain and improve emergency response times and make sure
emergency services are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week-even if there are
multiple calls; and
WHEREAS, the promise has been kept to use only as much of the voter-
authorized levy increase as was needed to hire, train, and maintain the higher level of
service; and
WHEREAS, since 2006 of the initial passing of the temporary levy lid lift
they have staffed Station 11 on Bethel Road and Station 9 near Manchester, which has
improved the response times by 195 seconds; and
WHEREAS, this measure authorizes a temporary increase in the levy
rate for fire and emergency medical services by increasing the amount the district levies
in property taxes by $.296 per $1,000 valuation for six years. The levy would expire in
2018;and
WHEREAS, the additional staffing created by the temporary lid lift and
the additional federal funds that the District will qualify for will improve and reduce
emergency response times to South Kitsap and the citizens of Port Orchard; now
therefore

THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT ORCHARD,
WASHINGTON RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:
THAT: The City of Port Orchard supports the South Kitsap Fire and
Rescue District Levy Ballot Measure and urges Kitsap County voters to approve the
ballot measure on April17, 2012.
PASSED by the City Council of the City of Pmt Orchard, SIGNED by the
Mayor and attested by the Clerk in authentication of such passage this 28th day of
February 2012.
