AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF PORT ORCHARD,
WASHINGTON, AMENDING PORT ORCHARD
MUNICIPAL CODE 2.60 COMPENSATION FOR CITY
COUNCIL MEMBERS
WHEREAS, the City Council desires to allow for a Councilmenlber to miss a regular
meeting due to an unavoidable job conflict and/or health/ill.ness reasons and still receive
compensation for that meeting; and
WHEREAS, should a Councilmember miss more than four (4) consecutive meetings, the
Council shall appoint a committee of three Councilmembers to meet with the subject member to
discuss their ability to perform the duties of his/her office,
NOW THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT
ORCHARD, WASHINGTON DOES HEREBY ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. That Port Orchard Municipal Code 2.60 is hereby amended to read as
follows:
2.60.030 Nonattendance.
(1) With the exception of missing a regular meeting because of an
unavoidable primary employment schedule, a councilmember will not be compensated
for non-attendance of such regular meetings unless excused by a majority vote of the city
council and no single councilmember may be excused for more than 4 meetings per
calendar year (not to include illness and job conflict non-attendance). Acceptable excuses
shall be:
a. Vacation;
b. Bereavement;
C. Unusual or unforeseen circumstances such as serious illness in the
family, accident, or transportation carrier delay.
(2) In the event a councilmember misses four (4) or more consecutive
meetings, the council shall appoint a committee of three (3) councilmernbers to meet with
the subject councilmember to discuss that member's ability to perform the duties of that
office and then return a recommendation to the whole council as to the continued
retention of that member in the Council.
SECTION 2. If any section, sentence, clause or phrase of this ordinance should be held
to be invalid or unconstitutional by a court of competent jurisdiction, such invalidity or
unconstitutionality shall not affect the validity or constitutionality of any other section,
sentence, clause, or phrase of this ordinance.

SECTION 3. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect five. (5) days after posting
and publication as required by law. A summary of this ordinance may be published in lieu
of the entire ordinance, as authorized by State Law.
PASSED by the City Council of the City of Port Orchard, APPROVED by the Mayor
and attested to by the City Clerk in authentication of such passage this 14th day of October, 2008.
