AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF PORT ORCHARD, WASHINGTON
SETTING THE AMOUNT OF PROPERTY TAXES TO BE RAISED FOR
THE YEAR 2004
WHEREAS, the City of Port Orchard, with a population under ten thousand (10,000), retains
the ability to raise property taxes up to one percent per year; and
WHEREAS, notice was given for the annual public hearing on revenue sources held on
October 27, 2003 to consider the City of Port Orchard's current expense and street budget for the 2004
calendar year pursuant to RCW 84.55.120, and
WHEREAS, it is the City of Port Orchard's desire that the maximum amount of property tax
allowed be collected for the year 2004, now, therefore,
THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT ORCHARD, WASHINGTON DOES HEREBY
ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS
Sartion 1. There shall be and hereby is levied on all real, personal and utility property,
whose estimated assessed valuation is four hundred thirty-six million, six hundred four thousand eight
hundred and four dollars ($436,604,804) current taxes for the year commencing January 1, 2004 at the
approximate rate of $2.19 per thousand dollars of assessed valuation. The regular property tax levy for
collection in 2004 is approximately nine hundred fifty-six thousand one hundred thirty-six dollars
($956,136), plus an additional dollar amount equal to the amount allowed under the new construction,
improvements to property and any increase in the value of state -assessed property, by provisions of RCW
84.55.010.
This is a one percent increase plus new construction of approximately thirty-two thousand two hundred
eighty dollars ($32,280) over the collection in 2003 which was at a levy rate of $2.167 in an amount of nine
hundred twenty-three thousand eight hundred fifty-six dollars ($923,856).
PASSED by the City Council of the City of Port Orchard signed by the Mayor and attested by
the City Clerk in authentication of such passage this 10 day of November 2003.
