The following is a summary of an Ordinance approved by the Port Orchard City Council at their regular
Council meeting held July 8, 2002.
ORDINANCE NO. 1865
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY PORT ORCHARD, WASHINGTON,
AMENDING CHAPTER 15.44 OF THE PORT ORCHARD MUNICIPAL
CODE AND ADOPTING THE 2000 WASHINGTON STATE ENERGY
CODE AND THE WASHINGTON STATE VENTILATION AND INDOOR
AIR QUALITY CODE.
Copies of Ordinance No. 1865 are available for review at the office of the City Clerk of the City of Port
Orchard. Upon written request a statement of the full text of the Ordinance will be mailed to any
interested person without charge. Thirty days afler publication, copies of Ordinance No. 1865 will be
provided at a nominal charge.

AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF PORT ORCHARD,
WASHINGTON, AMENDING CHAPTER 15.44 OF THE PORT
ORCHARD MUNICIPAL CODE AND ADOPTING THE 2000
WASHINGTON STATE ENERGY CODE AND THE WASHINGTON
STATE VENTILATION AND INDOOR AIR QUALITY CODE.
WHEREAS, the City Council adopted Ordinance No. 1728 on June 22, 1998 thereby
adopting the 1997 edition of the Northwest Energy Code; and
WHEREAS, the Washington State Building Code Council has adopted the 2000
Washington State Energy Code and the Washington State Ventilation and Indoor Air Quality Code
and these codes provide increased energy efficiency over the Northwest Energy Code, and
WHEREAS, Kitsap County recognizes the benefits of these codes and is adopting
them for construction standards in unincorporated areas, and
WHEREAS, it is beneficial to the community to maintain consistency in construction
standards, whenever possible, now, therefore,
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT ORCHARD DOES HEREBY

SECTION 1. Section 15.44.010 of the Port Orchard Municipal Code is amended to
read as follows:
15.44.010 Minimum requirements established. The Washington State Energy
Code and the Washington State Ventilation and Indoor Air Quality Code, as promulgated by the
Washington State Building Code Council, shall set forth minimum requirements for new buildings
and structures, additions and remodels of existing buildings and structures.
