03/04/1996 - Work Study - MinutesPort Orchard, Washington March 4, 1996 Council of the City of Port Orchard, Washington, called to order for Study Session by Mayor Leslie Weatherill at 7:30 PM at City Hall, 216 Prospect Street. Council members present: Clauson, Wyatt, Morrison, Geiger, and Grable. City Staff present: City Engineer Curles, City Planner Gross and Deputy Clerk Hager. Mayor Weatherill opened the meeting by stating the topic of this Study Session was the Mainstreet Program which is a subsection of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. City Planner Gross narrated a slide show and explained the membership process for the National Mainstreet Program. The slide presentation chronicled the four step ap roach to becoming a successful Mainstreet participant. The four steps were: (1� Organization; (2) Promotion; (3) Design; and (4) Economic Restructuring. After the slide presentation Ron Rada, downtown business owner, discussed his proposal to solicit charter members to form a Port Orchard Downtown Association to help fund the revitalization of downtown Port Orchard. Mr. Rada advised the next meeting for the Port Orchard Downtown Association will be at Givens Community Center, April 2, 1996. At 8:20 PM Mayor Weatherill adjourned the meeting.
