Council of the City of Port Orchard, Washington, called to order for Study
Session by Mayor Leslie Weatherill at 7:30 PM at City Hall, 216 Prospect Street.
Council members present: Clauson, Wyatt, Morrison, Powers, Geiger, Van Zee and
Grable.
City Staff present: City Engineer Curles, City Planner Brown and City Clerk
Parks.
Mayor Weatheri 11 opened meeti ng by stati ng that the purpose of thi s Study Sessi on
is to discuss ideas for downtown core revitalization and then requested Engineer
Curles facilitate discussion.
Engineer Curles emphasized revitalization will require cooperation between
everyone and requested each person and/or organization represented, voice ideas
and/or areas of concern.
After a lengthy discussion, the City Planner reviewed primary ideas given which
were that downtown merchants and property owners must determine a vision or
theme; develop a partnership effort to work together; review pedestrian and
traffic orientation; realize revitalization will be a long term project,
requiring cooperation and focus; utilize Comprehensive Plan which many downtown
people and residents helped develop; approach focus with positive attitude; and
everyone must keep revitalization momentum moving forward, don't talk with no
action.
At the request of the City Council, City Engineer Curles will set date for next
meeting after first of year to continue discussion on revitalization. It was
suggested that Poulsbo BIA be contacted for information on how to establish a
Business Improvement Association and what the benefits may be.
