RE: Committee Minutes
The Growth Management/Planning Committee met for at the corner of
Tremont Street and South Kitsap Boulevard, 6:30 PM Monday, 16 April
1996. Members present were Don Morrison (substituting for Carolyn
Powers), Bob Geiger, and Jack Grable (substituting for Warren Van
Zee). Representing the property owners were Matt Randish, Don
Thorton and architect Kelly Brandon. Also present was Larry Curles.
The Committee met to discuss the entry signs for "Tremont Village".
The location and size is a concern to the City Council.
Mr Thorton, representing Harrison Hospital, showed a new design
idea to the Committee. It was noted that any sign on the southwest
corner will be affected by the numerous trees.
Councilman Morrison proposed a different idea which was discussed
in depth by the participants. Instead of constructing one double
sided sign, two single faced signs would be more effective and less
obtrusive. There would be one sign on each side of the Boulevard.
This would eliminate the sight distance problem with the
trees.
The signs would be able to meet the 6 foot height limitation,
but would be longer than the original designs.(The architect
later noted that the sign may be closer to 7 feet, if the
architectural cap is installed.)
The two signs would cost more than one double face sign,
possibly by 170%.
Exterior lighting would be able to be used instead of interior
lighting. if interior lighting is used, the brightness of the
sign would have to be softened.
The design concept would follow the signs used at Safeway and
Eagle Crest.
The architect was going to develop a new concept based on the above
idea. Of particular interest to the Committee was to see how the
new sign would appear against the existing background and hill.
The existing sign for the Texaco Station was discussed. The written
agreement between the City and Mr randish appears adequate.
