A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF PORT ORCHARD,
WASHINGTON, MODIFYING THE POLICY FOR STREET LIGHTS
AND REPEALING RESOLUTION NO. 1547
WHEREAS the City of Port Orchard is responsible for the maintenance of roads and traffic
WHEREAS, street illumination is an integral part of traffic safety, and
WHEREAS, the City provides street lights at no additional costs to the neighborhood, now,
THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT ORCHARD DOES HEREBY RESOLVE THAT:
(1) The following is the policy for establishing and maintaining street lights along
public streets in the City of Port Orchard,
a. Street lights will be authorized by the City Council When the
placement of said light would enhance traffic safety.
b. When authorized by the City Council, the City Engineer will
request that Puget Sound Energy install the street light on an
existing pole, at no cost to the City. The City will pay the required
monthly cost of operating and maintaining that light.
c. If no pole exists for the installation of the light, the cost of
providing and installing the pole will be that of those who
requested the light. The installation of the light will not be
authorized until the pole is installed and approved by Puget
Sound Energy.
d. Applications for subdivisions, short plats and land use actions will
be reviewed to determine if the requirement to install a light pole
is necessary. The City criteria will be a street light at each
intersection, the end of the street, and locations where the
City Engineer deems a lighting is necessary to improve
traffic safety.
(2) Resolution No. 1547, enacted August 13, 1990 is here by repealed in its entirety.
