A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF PORT ORCHARD,
WASHINGTON REPEALING RESOLUTION N0.1854AND
REESTABLISHING A POLICY FOR THE USE OF SPEED
HUMPS.
WHEREAS, the City of Port Orchard maintains and regulates the public
streets within its corporate limits; and
WHEREAS, there are special circumstances when traffic enforcement is
not readily available to address speeding problems on residential streets; and
WHEREAS, the placement of a speed hump in the street has demonstrated
to be effective in causing the traffic to slow, now therefore,
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT ORCHARD, WASHINGTON HEREBY
RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. Resolution No. 1854 is hereby repealed in its entirety.
SECTION 2. The Public Works Department may install speed humps in the
right of way, if the installation complies with the following policy:
(1) The average daily traffic on the road would be less than 750 vehicles.
(2) The road would be paved and the humps could be positioned so those
motorists cannot drive around it.
(3) The majority of the neighbors near the speed hump agree to it.
(4) The Police concur with the use of it and are not able to effectively enforce
speeding on this particular street.
(5) The Fire Department concurs with the use of if.
PASSED by the City Council of the City of Port Orchard, APPROVED by the
Mayor and attested by the Clerk in authentication of such passage this 141h day of May 2001.
