A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF PORT ORCHARD, --·-·--·----------.."""'~""'"""~"""'""""..........,""""""'.,.....""~r.""""'i~~~~c.=.'-WASHINGTON ESTABLISHING A POLICY FOR THE CITY HALL
CLOCK TOWER CHIMES.
WHEREAS, the city has chimes in the City Hall clock tower, which can project the time and
music; and
WHEREAS, the city staff will need a policy on the operation of the City Hall clock tower
chimes, now, therefore,
THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT ORCHARD DOES HEREBY RESOLVE THAT:
SECTION 1: The operation of the City Hall clock tower chimes will be as follows:
( 1) The clock tower chimes will operate with the following routine schedule:
TIME OF YEAR
Day after Labor Day
to May 1"
May 2" to Labor Day
MONDAY
THROUGH
FRIDAY
8:00 AM to 8:00 PM
8:00 AM to 9:00 PM
SATURDAY
AND
SUNDAY
9:00AM to 8:00 PM
9:00 AM to 9:00 PM
(2) The Westminster chimes will ring on the quarter hours.
(3) Volume of the chimes and songs will be established by the city.
(4) One song will be played at noon and 5:00PM, daily.
(5) The city may select and play seasonal music for holidays and special
events.
(6) With City Council approval, community events or activities may be
supplemented with special music at hours other than noon and 5:00 PM.
(7) As a fundraiser or for community purposes, special songs may be played, if
approved by the City CounciL
SECTION 2. The City Clerk's Office will schedule requests and coordinate the
songs for the chimes. The City Engineer will be responsible for the maintenance of the sound
system.
SECTION 3. · The following will not be allows:
(1) Religious music. This restriction does not prohibit the playing of music that
uses the same tune for both religious and non-religious songs.
(2) Personal requests.
(3) Special songs for events or activities, which have not been approved by the
City Council.
