A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF PORT ORCHARD,
WASHINGTON RECLASSIFYING THE EMPLOYEE POSITION
OF PUBLIC WORKS SECRETARY TO PUBLIC WORKS CLERK
AND PROVIDING A STEP SYSTEM SCHEDULE FOR THIS
POSITION.
THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT ORCHARD DOES HEREBY RESOLVE
THAT:
Effective February 22, 1999, the employment position of Public Works Secretary is
hereby reclassified to Public Works Clerk, and
The following step system wage schedule is provided for the position of Public
Works Clerk.
Entry on the step wage schedule is subject to experience level; and these steps are
not to be considered automatic_

Job Title: Public Works Clerk
Department: Public Works
Reports To: Public Works Secretary lTechnician
Salary Range: General Secretarial -Clerical Entry Level
FLSA Classification: Regular Non-exempt

The Public Works Clerk may he a full-time or part-time job share position. It is a Fair Labor Standards Act non-exempt
position with the FLSA work period set starting Sunday 12:00 AM to Saturday 11:59:59 P.M. The regular working
hours for each position and employee shall be set by the Department Director or his/her designee. This position is not
subject to Civil Service. Attendance at evening meetings or other off -duty events is not a regular part of the duties of this
position and is not anticipated; however the Public Works Clerk may from time to time be required to return to duty after
normal work hours.
Major Function and Purpose
The Public Works Clerk performs officeiclerical duties necessary to the efficient operations of the Port Orchard Public
Works Department.
General Function
The Public Works Clerk provides reception duties, filing, typing, data entry into computer and any other general
assistance to the Public Works Department, which includes but is not limited to Engineering, Planning, and Building
functions.
Supervision Responsibilities
This position has no supervision responsibilities.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
While requirements may be representative of minimum levels of knowledge, skills and abilities, to perform this job
successfully, the incumbent will possess the abilities or aptitudes to perform each duty proficiently.
The individual serving as the Public Works Clerk must be able to communicate effectively and courteously. Knowledge of
routine office procedures, including use of office equipment is required. This position demands good interpersonal
communication skills to deal with other individuals.

The individual must be proficient in spelling, grammar, and arithmetic to prepare correct correspondence and to properly
account for monetary fees and receipts.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office environment. There are no extraordinary physical demands an the employee in this
position. Repeated interruption of the work routine is typical. This position requires extensive reading and involves
repetitive motion tasks. The employee will be required to answer telephones. The work area can be noisy.
Contacts and Relationsh
The Public Works Clerk has extensive contact with the public and members of other departments and agencies.
Physical Requirements
Continuous repetitive armlhand movement is essential to performance of this job. The incumbent in this position must be
able to discern voice conversation. The Public Works Clerk must have the physical ability to perform all essential job
functions. The employee must have hand -eye coordination sufficient to operate computers and other office equipment.
Must have the ability to produce handwritten documents.
Recruiting Requirements
High School Diploma
Prior office experience, including use of office equipment and machines
Experience in land use or real estate desirable
All city employees must successfully pass a preemployment Drug Testing as prescribed by the City's Drug and
Alcohol Testing Policy.
Experience and Training
Any combination of experience and training that provides the desired skills, knowledge and abilities.
