A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF PORT ORCHARD,
WASHINGTON CALLING FOR A RESPONSIBLE REPAIR
TO ROSS POINT.
WHEREAS, Ross Point has consistently failed in previous years and the resulting
landslides have closed this important State Highway; and
WHEREAS, people have been physically hurt by these landslides and the State of
Washington has had to pay compensation; and
WHEREAS, Ross Point failed again on the evening of January 14, 1998 and State
Road 166 is again blocked; and
WHEREAS, the unexpected closure of State Road 166 due to landslides is both
dangerous to the public and causes significant economic hardship on the local businesses; and
WHEREAS, the Washington State Department of Transportation is responsible for
the maintenance of the road and the road's slope stability; now, therefore,
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT ORCHARD, DOES HEREBY
RESOLVE THE FOLLOWING:
The State of Washington should cease tolerating this dangerous condition
and no longer accept hazardous landslides as a routine maintenance
problem.
The State of Washington should allocate the needed funds for a
comprehensive and complete repair of this hazardous condition before
more people are hurt and more businesses suffer.
PASSED by the City Council of the City of Port Orchard, APPROVED by the
Mayor and attested by the Clerk in authentication of such pas!91,
