A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF PORT ORCHARD,
WASHINGTON ESTABLISHING A CITY EMPLOYEE HEALTH
PROMOTION COMMITTEE AND IMPLEMENTATION POLICIES.
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Pork Orchard recognizes that employee
health is related to lifestyle decisions and many illnesses and injuries can be prevented by
positive individual health practices, and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Port Orchard recognizes that
improvements to employee health, achievable through active workplace health promotion
programs and activities, can result in better morale, reduced absenteeism, and enhanced
productivity and performance, and
WHEREAS, the City Council supports the implementation of a City Employee
Health Promotion Committee aimed at preventing illnesses and injuries and promoting better
morale, reduced absenteeism, and enhanced productivity and performance among City
employees, now, therefore,
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT ORCHARD, WASHINGTON,
HEREBY RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. ADOPTION AND PURPOSE STATEMENT. The City of Port
Orchard hereby adopts a City Employee Health Promotion Committee. The purpose of the City
Employee Wellness program is to develop, promote, and carry out those policies, programs, and
activities that improve the health and well-being of City employees, contribute to a healthful work
environment, and provide employees with sufficient information to make informed lifestyle
decisions.
SECTION 2. VOLUNTARY PARTICIPATION. Any participation in the programs
and activities of the City Employee Health Promotion Committee will strictly be on a voluntary
basis. Employees serving on the City Employee Health Promotion Committee shall not be entitled
to additional compensation above their regular rate of pay.
SECTION 3. PROGRAM COORDINATOR. In order to insure coordination
within the City Employee Health Promotion Committee, a Program Coordinator is necessary and
will serve in that capacity. The committee members shall elect from within the committee, a
member to serve as Program Coordinator.
SECTION 4. MEETINGS. To promote active participation in the City Employee
Wellness Program, the Program Coordinator will schedule a regular quarterly meeting of the City
Employee Health Promotion Committee. At this quarterly meeting, the City Employee Health
Promotion Committee may plan programs and activities, perform evaluations of ongoing programs
and activities and provide departmental employee input.

SECTION 5. RESOURCES. Existing resources within the city which are
available to the general public, such as Active Club Building, Council Chambers, programs and
activities, will be considered for utilization by the City Wellness Team in preparing their plans.
