A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF PORT ORCHARD, WASHINGTON
REAFFIRMING THE CITY OF PORT ORCHARD'S SUPPORT FOR THE
SOUTH KITSAP SCHOOL DISTRICT LEVY ON APRIL 28, 1998 AND
URGING THE CITIZENS OF PORT ORCHARD TO JOIN IN SUPPORTING
PASSAGE OF THIS LEVY.
WHEREAS, the health and welfare of the youth of Port Orchard is a primary concern of its
citizens; and
WHEREAS, a well -funded educational program provides opportunities for academic and
social growth, development, and success for the youth of Port Orchard; and
WHEREAS, a healthy and prospering public education system is important to the economic
growth and well-being of the City of Port Orchard; and
WHEREAS, the South Kitsap School District is requesting that district taxpayers approve a
two-year $19.9 million maintenance and operation levy on April 28, 1998; and
WHEREAS, the South Kitsap School District has no other source to provide this funding;
and
WHEREAS, the majority of the voters in the south Kitsap School district indicated their
support of the levy in the February 3 election; and
WHEREAS, the South Kitsap School District provides the public education for the youth of
the City of Port Orchard;
NOW THEREFORE, I LESLIE J. WEATHERILL, MAYOR of the City of Port Orchard and
WE, JOHN CLAUSON, ROBERT GEIGER, DON MORRISON, CAROLYN POWERS, TOM STANSBERY,
WARREN VAN ZEE AND RICK WYATf, COUNCILMEMBERS of the City of Port Orchard, do hereby
announce our support for the South Kitsap School District levy on April 28, 1998, and urge the citizens of Port
Orchard to join us in supporting passage of this levy.
