A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT
ORCHARD REQUESTING ASSISTANCE FROM THE WSDOT DURING THE
REPAIR OF SR 166
WHEREAS, the City of Port Orchard downtown business area is
economically dependent on the local transportation network; and
WHEREAS, Bay Street is part of State Road 166 which is the direct
road link between Port Orchard and Bremerton; and
WHEREAS, the WSDOT will be closing SR 166 again this summer for
additional repairs;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
PORT ORCHARD THAT:
1. WSDOT should coordinate the road closure with the City and
downtown area to allow the local businesses to adjust to the
road closure. The City should know the construction schedule
as soon as it is established and be kept abreast of all
actions affecting the timing of the work.
2. WSDOT should include informational signs advising the public
which businesses are available along Bay Street, similar to
those signs used at the last extended road closures.
3. WSDOT should select a construction solution that will be a
permanent repair to this roadway.
4. WSDOT should include mitigation to reduce the congestion and
adverse impacts at the intersection of Tremont Street and the
Port Orchard Boulevard which are a direct result of closing SR
166.
PASSED by the City Council of the City of Port Orchard, APPROVED by
the Mayor and attested by the Clerk in authentication of such passage this 8th
day of January, 1996.
