A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF PORT ORCHARD, WASHINGTON
URGING THE WASHINGTON STATE LEGISLATURE TO REFRAIN
FROM MAKING ANY SIGNIFICANT CHANGES TO THE WASHINGTON
STATE GROWTH MANAGEMENT ACT.
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Port Orchard finds the
Washington State Growth Management Act to be a critically important piece of
legislation that effectuates responsible, necessary and prudent planning for both
land use and financial matters for the State of Washington and local jurisdictions,
and
WHEREAS, tremendous time and money has been expended by government and
citizen volunteers in complying with the mandates of the Washington State Growth
Management Act, and
WHEREAS, any repeal or significant modification to the Washington State
Growth Management Act would result in a tragic waste of time and energy expended in
complying with the Act and would further undermine the faith and confidence the
general population should have in government affairs, and
WHEREAS, the City of Port Orchard has in good faith complied with all
of the mandates of the Washington State Growth Management Act and justifiably
expects neighboring jurisdictions to do the same, as the compliance of neighboring
jurisdictions will significantly impact the Port Orchard community's ability to
maintain the integrity and beauty of its unique culture, community and environment,
and
WHEREAS, the Washington State Legislature is considering major changes
to the Washington State Growth Management Act,
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT ORCHARD, DOES
HEREBY RESOLVE THE FOLLOWING:
SECTION 1. The City of Port Orchard urges the Washington State
Legislature to refrain from making any significant changes to the Washington State
Growth Management Act. The Washington State Growth Management Act is a necessary
and effective piece of legislation. Any significant modifications to the Act that
serve to undermine its goals and policies will be a tremendous disservice to the
citizens of the State of Washington for generations to come.
Passed by the City Council of the City of Port Orchard, APPROVED by the
Mayor and attested by the Clerk in authentication of such passage this 13th day of
February, 1995.
