1593 - Ordinance - Amending Ordinance 1533 and 1527 City Council CompensationNOTICE OF CITY OF PORT ORCHARD ORDINANCE The following is a summary of an Ordinance approved by the Port Orchard City Council at their regular Council meeting held November 8, 1993. ORDINANCE NO. 1593 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF PORT ORCHARD, WASHINGTON, AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 1533 AND ORDINANCE NO. 1527 AND ESTABLISHING A RATE OF COMPENSATION FOR CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS AND PROVIDING LIMITATIONS AND PROCEDURES FOR REVIEW OF EXCUSED AND UNEXCUSED ABSENCES. Copies of Ordinance No. 1593 are available for review at the office of the City Clerk of the City of Port Orchard. Upon written request a statement of the full text of the Ordinance will be mailed to any interested person without charge. Thirty days after publication, copies of Ordinance No. 1593 will be provided at a nominal charge. City of Port Orchard Michelle Hager Deputy Clerk Publish: Port Orchard Independent November 17, 1993 ORDINANCE NO. 1593 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF PORT ORCHARD, WASHINGTON, AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 1533 AND ORDINANCE NO. 1527 AND ESTABLISHING A RATE OF COMPENSATION FOR CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS AND PROVIDING LIMITATIONS AND PROCEDURE FOR REVIEW OF EXCUSED AND UNEXCUSED ABSENCES THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT ORCHARD, WASHINGTON DOES HEREBY ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. THAT Ordinance No. 1533 and Ordinance No. 1527 are hereby amended to read as follows: Effective January 1, 1992 compensation for Port Orchard City Councilmembers shall be at the rate of Two Hundred Sixty Five Dollars ($265.00) per regular council meeting. COST OF LIVING ADJUSTMENT - The per meeting rate shall be adjusted annually as of January 1 based on 100% of the Seattle (CPI-U) Cost Of Living Index. The index applied will be for the first half year increase over the previous years first half which is released in late August. NON-ATTENDANCE - (A) With the exception of missing a regular meeting because of an unavoidable primary employment schedule, a council member will not be compensated for non-attendance of such regular meetings unless excused by a majority vote of the City Council and no single council member may be excused for more than 4 meetings per calendar year (not to include job conflict non-attendance). Acceptable excuses shall be: Vacation Illness Bereavement Unusual or unforseen circumstances such as serious illness in the family; accident or transportation carrier delay. (B) In the event of three unexcused absences, the Mayor shall appoint a committee of three Councilmembers to meet with the subject councilmember to discuss that member's ability to perform the duties of that office and then return a recommendation to the whole Council as to the continued retention of that member in the Council. Ordinance No. 1593 Page 2 of 2 4. OTHER COMPENSATION A. Reimbursement for meals shall be allowed if the mutually agreed time of meeting is during a meal time. B. Reimbursement for mileage shall be made if the meeting is over a 25 mile distance. This would apply to attendance at an approved convention or investigative trip.
