AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF PORT ORCHARD,
WASHINGTON EXEMPTING THE POSITIONS OF FIRE
CHIEF AND POLICE CHIEF FROM CIVIL SERVICE
WHEREAS, the present method of selection of the
Fire Chief and Police Chief is regulated by the Civil Service
Commission under the rule of one, and
WHEREAS, the State of Washington as of July 1, 1987
pursuant to Revised Code of Washington 41.08.50 and 41.12.50
has granted cities the power to exempt these positions from
Civil Service Classification, and
WHEREAS, the City Council deems it appropriate to
allow the Mayor of the City to select the persons to fill these
positions under the rule of three and with the confirmation of
the City Council.
NOW, THEREFORE, the Council of the City of Port
Orchard does ordain as follows:
Section 1. The positions of Fire Chief and Police
Chief of the City shall be exempt for
Civil Service Classification.
Section 2. The Mayor of the City shall select the
persons to fill the positions of Fire
Chief and Police Chief under the rule of
three and other requirements of RCW
41.08.50 and 41.12.50.
Section 3. The person selected by the Mayor must
receive confirmation by a majority vote
of the City Council.
PASSED by the City Council of the City of Port
Orchard and signed by the Mayor and attested by the Clerk in
authentication of such passage this llth day of January, 1988.
