January 19, 2015-Martin Luther King, Jr. DayPROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, the City of Port Orchard joins the Ebenezer African Methodist
Episcopal Church in its annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Day program and celebration; and
WHEREAS, this year's "A Day of Service in Action" theme is a great opportunity
for us to recognize all the churches, service clubs, nonprofit organizations, and civic
organizations that work everyday to serve and unite Kitsap County residents; and
WHEREAS, the South Kitsap High School Naval Junior Recruit Officers Training
Corps is comprised of 9th through 12th grade students, who by their actions have chosen to
honor Dr. King and make a difference in our community; and
WHEREAS, on January 19, 2015, the South Kitsap High School Naval Recruit
Officers Training Corps will be conducting a community beautification clean-up in three
separate locations: the Port Orchard Waterfront Park, Givens Field City Park, and the
Retsil Veterans Memorial; and
WHEREAS, I applaud their efforts and hold them up as an example of what Dr.
King stood for and how we can faithfully confirm by our actions that Dr. King's dream is
still alive; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that I, Timothy C. Matthes, Mayor of the
City of Port Orchard, do hereby proclaim Monday, January 19, 2015 as:
Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service in Action
in the City of Port Orchard, and urge its citizens to honor the memory of Dr. King by
showing love and respect for one another and with all the unselfish acts we undertake
benefitting our community.
