PORT ORCHARD, WA – Mayor Rob Putaansuu announced today that city park facilities, including parking lots, restrooms, and playgrounds will fully reopen effective May 5. The news, shared
by Mayor Putaansuu, is in concert with Governor Inslee’s direction to open state parks and allow outdoor recreation pursuits in May.
The data-driven decision to responsibly open community parks is meant to provide an outlet for Port Orchard residents to renew their physical and mental health, but it is not a greenlight
to congregate in groups, according to Mayor Rob Putaansuu.
“It is a relief for all of us to be able to open our parks, but strict social-distancing practices are still in effect,” Putaansuu said. “We ask that all of our citizens support each
other by avoiding close contact while enjoying time outdoors. By taking extra safety measures now, we will be able to get back to normal in a shorter time period.
The announcement affects Givens, Etta Turner, Van Zee, McCormick Village, Central and Rockwell parks within Port Orchard city limits. For more information visit the City of Port Orchard
parks page.
