Legislative Update
Signing of House Bill 2990
PORT ORCHARD, WA – In early March, communities across Washington State welcomed back their local legislators from Olympia after the conclusion of the 2018 Regular Legislative Session.
The 2018 session was a short 60-day legislative session and legislators were tasked with passing supplemental transportation, operating, and capital budgets. The City of Port Orchard
applauds legislators for completing their work on time and making meaningful investments to their communities.
This session, the City was represented in Olympia by Senator Jan Angel, Representative Jesse Young, and Representative Michelle Caldier. The City of Port Orchard is grateful for the
hard work and leadership of our 26th District Legislators who successfully secured $300,000 in the State Capital Budget funding for the Rockwell Downtown Pocket Park project. Additionally,
the City was pleased to see the passage of legislation sponsored by Rep. Jesse Young and supported by Rep. Caldier and Sen. Angel which ensures tolls on the Tacoma Narrows Bridge will
not increase until 2023 and they will remain capped at $5.25. This is a major relief for our communities that cross the bridge with regularity during the course of their day.
The City of Port Orchard is very fortunate to have the representation of effective legislators that do what is right for our community. We appreciate the continued support of the 26th
legislative delegation and wish them well in the coming year.
