International Childhood Cancer Awareness Day-February 15, 2022PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, childhood cancer is the leading cause of death by disease in children, and; WHEREAS, in the last 20 years only four new drugs have been approved by the FDA to specifically treat childhood cancer, and; WHEREAS, researchers and healthcare professionals work diligently dedicating their expertise to treat and cure children with cancer, and; WHEREAS, hundreds of non-profit organizations at the local and national level are helping children with cancer and their families cope through educational, emotional and financial support, and; WHEREAS, Childhood Cancer International, along with The American Childhood Cancer Organization, has recognized International Childhood Cancer day since 2002, and; WHEREAS, too many children are affected by this deadly disease and more must be done to raise awareness and find a cure; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that I, Robert Putaansuu, Mayor of the City of Port Orchard, Washington do hereby proclaim February 15, 2022 as: International Childhood Cancer Awareness Day in the City of Port Orchard and I call upon all employees and citizens of the City to observe International Childhood Cancer Awareness Day and support this cause that so deeply impacts families in every community across our country.
