05/01/2017 - Minutes City of Port Orchard Economic Development and Tourism Committee Meeting Minutes Monday, May 1, 2017 Committee Members Present: Council Members Bek Ashby (Chair), Fred Chang, Clancy Donlin City Officials and Staff: Mayor Rob Putaansuu, City Clerk Brandy Rinearson, Associate Planner Keri Sallee. Guests: Sharon King, Matt Murphy, Lorraine Olsen, Bobbie Stewart, Zachary Stocks The meeting was called to order by Chair Ashby at 9:00 a.m. 1. Presentation: Zachary Stocks, Grays Harbor Historical Seaport – Tall Ships in Port Orchard. Zachary Stocks, with the nonprofit Grays Harbor Historical Seaport (GHHS), gave a presentation on the educational and recreational activities that GHHS offers on their tall ships, Lady Washington and Hawaiian Chieftain. The ships are scheduled to be docked at the Port Orchard marina during the last week of July. GHHS would like to explore future mutually-beneficial partnerships with the City, the Chamber of Commerce, POBSA, and other business, tourism and educational groups, both to encourage onboard visitors and to enhance Port Orchard events and activities with the tourist appeal of the ships. 2. Discussion with Business Representatives. Bobbie Stewart said that the “Ladies Night Out on Bay Street” event will be on May 5. Dragonfly Cinema’s inaugural Port Orchard Film Festival will be held May 5 through May 7. The next Roger Brooks webinar, “Lodging, Attraction & Guides: Your Top 5 Marketing Priorities”, will be presented on May 17 at 8:30 am in the Council Chambers. 3. Discussion: Tourism Promotion Strategic Plan. Chair Ashby led the committee through a number of proposed revisions that had been proposed to the draft Tourism Promotion Strategic Plan since the committee’s last review at the April meeting. The committee agreed upon a final draft, which will be forwarded to City Council for review at the May 16 work-study meeting. 4. Discussion: Trademark Use Policy. This item was postponed to the June committee meeting. Ashby adjourned the meeting at 11:49 am. Audio/visual recording was successful. Next Meeting/Location: The next EDT meeting will be on June 12, 2017, at 9:00 a.m. in the Council Chambers.
