054-19 - Ordinance - Authorize One PT Temporary Planning Intern Position for the Dept. of Community DevelopmentoRDtNANCE NO. 054-19 AN ORD NANCE OF THE CITY OF PORT ORCHARD, WASHINGTON, TO AUTHORIZE ONE PART-T ME, TEMPORARY PLANNING INTERN POSITION FOR THE DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT; SETT NG AN HOURLY PAY RATE; PROVIDING FOR SEVERAB LITY AND PUBL CATION; AND SETTING AN EFFECT VE DATE. WHEREAS, the Department of Community Development has several projects underway and has identified a need for additional assistance for the City planners; and WHEREAS, Department staff have determined that one part-time, temporary planning intern position will fill this need; and WHEREAS, internships provide students with valuable experience and resume' building skills, as well as offering them a glimpse into "real world" application of their studies; and WHEREAS, partnering with educational institutions provides for a good conduit for future employees and support of the profession of long and short term planners; and WHEREAS, the Director of the Department of Community Development and Finance Director have determined that the Department can absorb the cost of this part-time, temporary position by utilizing existing budget allocation; and WHEREAS, a job description for the position has been developed; and WHEREAS, a pay rate of StS per hour has been determined to be appropriate for the current market; now, therefore, THE C TY COUNC t OF THE C W OF PORT ORCHARD, WASHINGTON, DO ORDA N AS FOLLOWS: SECT ON 1. The C ity Council hereby authorizes the creation of one part-time, temporary position of Planning lntern within the Department of Community Development. SECT ON 2. The Ci ty Council hereby sets the pay rate for the Planning lntern at S15 per hour. Ordinance No. 054-19 Page 2 of 2 SECT ON 3. Sever bilitv. lf a ny section, sentence, clause or phrase of this Ordinance should be held to be unconstitutional or unlawful by a court of competent jurisdiction, such invalidity or unconstitutionality shall not affect the validity or constitutionality of any other section, sentence, clause or phrase of this Ordinance. SECT ON 4. Publication. This Ordinance shall be published by an approved summary consisting of the title. SECT ON 5. Effective Date. This Ordinance shalltake effect and be in fullforce and effect five days after publication, as provided by law.
