A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT
ORCHARD, WASHINGTON RENAMING AND DESIGNATING THE LITTLE
LEAGUE FIELD BEHIND GIVENS COMMUNITY CENTER FROM "ART
MIKELSEN LITTLE LEAGUE FIELD" TO "ART MIKELSEN MEMORIAL
LITTLE LEAGUE FIELD", AND NAMING THE SMALL UNNAMED
DRIVEWAY BEHIND GIVENS COMMUNITY CENTER BETWEEN THE
CENTER AND BALL FIELD "ART MIKELSEN LANE"
WHEREAS, Art Mikelsen devoted his life to ensuring boys and girls had a
wholesome program of service to youth; and
WHEREAS, on November 27, 1978, Council formally dedicated and changed the
name of the portion of Givens Field used by the South Kitsap Western Little League to 'Art
Mikelsen Little League Field'; and
WHEREAS, Art Mikelsen passed away on August 30, 2014, and to honor his
memory, the Little League ball field will be renamed; and
WHEREAS, the driveway behind Givens Community Center will be named after
Art Mikelsen, now, therefore;
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT ORCHARD, WASHINGTON, HEREBY
RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:
THAT: The name of the Little League field behind Givens Community Center will be
renamed 'Art Mikelsen Memorial Little League Field', and further,
THAT: The small unnamed driveway behind Givens Community Center, between
the Center and the ball field, will be named 'Art Mikelsen Lane'.
PASSED by the City Council of the City of Port Orchard, SIGNED by the Mayor and attested
by the City Clerk in authentication of such passage this 101" day of May 2016.
