Committee Minutes
Monday, January 11, 2021; 3:31 p.m.
Members present via remote access: Chair Lucarelli and City staff Floyd, Messer and Esguerra. Guests
present via remote access: Sandy Jennings, Soroptimist.
Downtown Tree Decorating Contest
Discussion was held regarding the trees and tree contest including some of the trees had already been
removed and not by city staff; city providing extension cords instead of the tree sponsors; length of
extension cords needed; how to permanently number the planters; possibly moving the planters
slightly to remove gaps in between; finding a way to have the four planters by the corners lit as they
are not able to be connected to power; possibly updating the contest application to ask if sponsors
would like to keep the tree after the contest and checking on if this would be a liability issue for the
city; keeping the trees and icicle lights up longer; updating the planter map; city website; and prizes.
Staff was asked to provide the following information at the next meeting: tree liability; budget
information; extension cord updates and budget availability; and finding ways to permanently mark
the planters.
2020 Event Follow-Up
Chair Lucarelli said the city and city hall looked beautiful with the lights and decorations. The tree
contest is always a huge success.
Further discussion was held regarding the big tree in front of city hall; sending photos to the city of
holiday decorations and Rocks of Cheer; driving around to view holiday decorations instead of
reviewing photos, if allowed; more decorations around the city; and possibly getting professional
photographer or drone photos, especially at night.
Staff was asked to provide the following information at the next meeting: budget availably for
professional photographer and providing budget information on the big tree regarding costs.
There being no further business, Chair Lucarelli adjourned the meeting at 4:28 p.m. Audio/Visual
recording was successful.
