022-15 - Resolution - Renaming Portion of Highway 16 to Trooper Tony Radulescu Memorial HighwayIntroduced by: Penny Sapp Requested by: Penny Sapp Drafted by: Penny Sapp Introduced: November 24, 2015 Adopted: November 24, 2015 RESOLUTION NO. 022-15 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF PORT ORCHARD, WASHINGTON IN SUPPORT OF RENAMING A PORTION OF STATE HIGHWAY 16 IN SOUTH KITSAP "TROOPER TONY RADULESCU MEMORIAL HIGHWAY" WHEREAS, Washington State Trooper Tony Radulescu was hired by the Washington State Patrol in 1995 and was commissioned out of the 971h Trooper Class on July, 31, 1996; and WHEREAS, Trooper Radulescu received numerous awards for outstanding service and achievement during his career as a state trooper; and WHEREAS, on February 23, 2012, Trooper Radulescu was killed during a traffic stop while on duty on State Highway 16 near Port Orchard, Washington and left behind a son, partner, and many relatives, friends and colleagues; and WHEREAS, RCW 47.01.420 allows state highways to be named or renamed by the Washington State Transportation Commission with the demonstration of community support of the proposal; and WHEREAS, renaming a portion of Highway 16 in honor of Trooper Radulescu is a fitting tribute to a man who gave his life in service of the people of Kitsap County; now therefore; THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT ORCHARD, WASHINGTON, HEREBY RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS: THAT: The Port Orchard City Council declares its support of the efforts to rename a portion of State Highway 16 to "Trooper Tony Radulescu Memorial Highway" in honor of the life and service of State Trooper Radulescu.
