020-08 - Resolution - Requesting to Rename the Tacoma Narrows BridgeRESOLUTION NO. 020-08 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF PORT ORCHARD, WASHINGTON REQUESTING THE WASHINGTON STATE TRANSPORTATION COMMISSION TO NAME THE NEW TACOMA NARROWS BRIDGE THE "BOB OKE BRIDGE" WHEREAS, Bob Oke joined the United States Navy in 1958, and served our country honorably for 26 years; and WHEREAS, Senator Bob Oke was elected to the State Senate in 1990, and served the people of the 26th Legislative District as State Senator from 1991 through 2007; and WHEREAS, Senator Bob Oke served continuously on the Senate Transportation Committee throughout his sixteen years of public service; and WHEREAS, Senator Bob Oke's vision and commitment made possible the planning and construction of a new bridge crossing the Tacoma Narrows that will serve the residents of the 26th Legislative District and the entire State of Washington for generations; and WHEREAS, Senator Bob Oke's political courage and leadership provided the opportunity for the Washington State Department of Transportation to design and build a new Tacoma Narrows Bridge that is the longest suspension bridge to be built in the United States since 1964; now, therefore THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT ORCHARD, WASHINGTON HEREBY RESPECTFULLY REQUESTS that the Washington State Transportation Commission name the new bridge crossing the Tacoma Narrows the, "Bob Oke Bridge" in honor of State Senator Bob Oke. PASSED by the City Council of the City of Port Orchard, APPROVED by the Mayor and attested by the Clerk in authentication of such passage this 25th day of March 2008.
