Festival of Chimes and Lights
Committee Minutes
Monday, March 15, 2021; 3:30 p.m.
Members present via remote access: Chair Lucarelli and City staff Rinearson. Guests present via
remote access: Sharron King, Fathoms O’ Fun Festival, Inc., Coreen Haydock, POBSA, Loretta Fritz, Peak
Performance Timing LLC, Rita, a Port Orchard citizen, and Sandy Jennings, Soroptimist.
2021 Theme
Chair Lucarelli shared a couple theme ideas with the committee.
After a brief discussion, the committee agreed upon A Season of Hope and Joy but will keep options
open in case something else comes up.
Extension Cords for Trees and Planters
In response to Chair Lucarelli, staff Rinearson said Public Works staff Thiele looked into the price of the
extension cords, and he estimated it would cost around $1,800. We should be able to absorb this cost
into the budget. If the City purchases all the extension cords, it will help to reduce liability.
Numbering Planters
Ms. Haydock said it would be very helpful if the planters were numbered with something small and
simple, maybe on the edge of the planter.
The committee talked about other numbering options. Additionally, the planters need to be moved to
their original locations as they have been moved around. There are 57 planters.
Continued: Tree Judging Categories
Chair Lucarelli explained that last year’s judge team had some ideas which included the Most Classic or
Classy Tree, Most Comical, and People’s Choice. We will continue to think of tree categories.
Additional Discussion
Decorations/lights at the roundabouts, Rockwell Park, and McCormick Woods, 5K run/walk, drone or
live streaming the tree lighting ceremony and playing music from the clocktower.
The committee agreed there should be no giving trees in the planters but will look for additional
locations, all trees will require lights, the City will keep the $50 sponsor charge, and the large tree in
front of City Hall will be delivered by an outside venter like last year.

There being no further business, Chair Lucarelli adjourned the meeting at 4:23 p.m. Audio/Visual
recording was successful.
