Upon written request a statement of the full text of the Ordinance will be mailed to any interested person without charge. City of Port Orchard Michelle Merlino Deputy Clerk Publish: Part Orchard Independent November 19, 2005 Kitsaplegals@soundpublishing.com ORDINANCE NO. 024-05 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF PORT ORCHARD, WASHINGTON SETTING THE AMOUNT OF PROPERTY TAXES TO BE RAISED FOR THE YEAR 2006 WHEREAS, the City of Port Orchard, with a population under ten thousand (10,000), retains the ability to raise property taxes up to one percent (1%) per year plus all or a portion of property tax levy capacity that has been banked for future use pursuant to RCW 84.55,092, and WHEREAS, notice was given for the annual public hearing on revenue sources held on October 24, 2005 to consider the City of Port Orchard's current expense and street budget for the 2006 calendar year pursuant to RCW 84.55.120; and WHEREAS, the City Council, after hearing and after duly considering all relevant evidence and testimony presented, has determined that the City of Port Orchard should collect the maximum amount of property tax allowed for the year 2DD6, in addition to that resulting from the addition of new construction and improvements to property and any increase in the value of state -assessed property, and it should also use a portion of its banked levy capacity, in order to discharge the expected expenses and obligations of the City and in its best interest; now, therefore, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT ORCHARD, WASHINGTON DO ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: SECITO There shall be and hereby is levied on all real, personal and utility property, whose estimated assessed valuation is five hundred ninety-four million, seven hundred eighty thousand six hundred ninety-five dollars ($594,780,695) current taxes for the year commencing January 1, 2006 at the approximate rate of $2.10 per thousand dollars of assessed valuation. The regular property tax levy for collection in 2006 is approximately One million two hundred twenty-four thousand dollars ($1,224,000), plus an additional dollar amount, of approximately twenty-five thousand five hundred twenty-seven dollars ($25,527), equal to the amount allowed under the new construction, improvements to property and any increase in the value of state - assessed property, by provisions of RCW 84.55.010, This is a twenty-four percent (24%) increase, plus new construction, of approximately two hundred thirty-six thousand nine hundred seventy-seven dollars ($236,977) over the collection in 2005 which was at a levy rate of $1,7994 in an amount of nine hundred eight -seven thousand twenty-three dollars ($987,023).
