AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF PORT ORCHARD,
WASHINGTON, AMENDING CHAPTER 2.04 OF THE
MUNICIPAL CODE REGARDING SPECIAL MEETINGS OF
THE CITY COUNCIL
WHEREAS, the rules governing City Council meetings are set forth in
Chapter 2.04 of the Port Orchard Municipal Code; and
WHEREAS, in 1966, the City Council adopted Ordinance No. 755, codified in
Port Orchard Municipal Code section 2.04.030, governing the procedure for special
meetings of the City Council in accord with RCW 35.23.181; and
WHEREAS, the Washington state legislature has subsequently amended
RCW 35.23.181 and adopted the Open Public Meetings Act, chapter 42.30 RCW, which
includes certain notice procedures for conducting special meetings; and
WHEREAS, the City Council desires to have its special meetings governed by
the rules and procedures set forth in the amended statutes; now, therefore,
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT ORCHARD,
WASHINGTON, DOES HEREBY ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. Port Orchard Municipal Code section 2.04.030 is hereby
amended to read as follows:
2.04.030 Special Meetings.
Special meetings may be called by the Mayor or by a majority of the
Councilmembers by written notice as provided in RCW 42.30.080. No
ordinances shall be passed or contract let or entered into, or bill for
the payment of money allowed at any special meeting.
SECTION 2. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect five (5) days
after posting and publication as required by law. A summary of this Ordinance may be
published in lieu of the entire ordinance, as authorized by State Law.

PASSED by the City Council of the City of Port Orchard, APPROVED by the
Mayor and attested by the Clerk in authentication of such passage this 9th day of February
2004.

SPECIAL MEETINGS OF THE CITY COUNCIL.
Copies of Ordinance No. 1930 are available for review at the office of the City Clerk of the City of Port
Orchard. Upon written request a statement of the full text of the Ordinance will be mailed to any
interested person without charge. Thirty days after publication, copies of Ordinance No. 1930 will be
provided at a nominal charge.
