AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF PORT ORCHARD, WASHINGTON,
DESIGNATING THE PORT ORCHARD INDEPENDENT AS THE
OFFICIAL NEWSPAPER OF THE CITY AND AMENDING THE PORT
ORCHARD MUNICIPAL CODE BY ADDING A NEW CHAPTER 1.16
ENTITLED "OFFICIAL NEWSPAPER"
WHEREAS, the City publishes certain documents, including ordinances, public notices and
legal notices, in a local newspaper; and
WHEREAS, RCW 35.21.875 requires the City to designated a newspaper as being the
official newspaper for the City; and
WHEREAS, the City Clerk prepared and published a request for newspaper publication
services and solicited cost proposals; and
WHEREAS, both the Port Orchard Independent and the Sun responded to the request for
proposal; and
WHEREAS, both the Port Orchard Independent and the Sun meet the qualifications of a
legal newspaper as set forth in RCW 65.16.020; and
WHEREAS, the City has determined that for reasons relating to value and circulation the
Port Orchard Independent should be designated the official newspaper of the City of Port Orchard;
now, therefore,
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT ORCHARD, WASHINGTON, DOES
ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. The Port Orchard Municipal Code shall be and is hereby amended by the
creation and enactment of new chapter 1.16 entitled "Official Newspaper."

All ordinances approved, passed and enacted by the City Council,all public
notices and all legal notices shall be published in the Port Orchard Independent,
which newspaper is hereby designated as the official newspaper of the City.

SECTION 2. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect five (5) days after posting and
publication as required by law. A summary of this Ordinance may be published in lieu of the entire
ordinance, as authorized by State Law.
PASSED by the City Council of the City of Port Orchard, APPROVED by the Mayor and
attested by the Clerk in authentication of such pa$age this 8th day of March 2004.

Orchard. Upon written request a statement of the full text of the Ordinance will be mailed to any
interested person without charge. Thirty days after publication, copies of Ordinance No. 1932 will be
provided at a nominal charge.
